My friend's dad is sick - he got ill, then better, now worse - will I upset her by asking about his health?

I found out a while back from a common acquaintance that a friend (who is in and out of touch) has a sick parent - I've asked a couple of times about her dad's health but now I hear he's doing quite badly. I want to reiterate my support to her but would hate to be a 'nag' about it - is it okay to send (another) note saying I'm thinking of her?
