As he as a place which could have been taken by someone else and the school will have had to pay up front for transport and accommodation. If the service providers are nice to the school and accept him not being able to attend you may be lucky to get away with only losing your deposit.

Basically the school will have paid for the residential but should have taken out insurance. But the school will need proof that your son cannot attend for medical reasons so get him tot he doctor for a doctor's note.

A lot of times in the forms you sign when paying for such a trip, there is usually a disclaimer stating that the money is non-refundable, regardless of the circumstances. I would double check with the teacher or principle ASAP. Good luck.
