They don't fade, they grow out! You'll have to get your hair done every 8 weeks or so depending on how fast your hair grows

The more your hair is washed and the longer it grows it tends to fade, but if you do want to get get rid of your highlights once your roots show BIG time, then go for a semi permanent dye to get rid of them, and by the time the dye has wore off, the highlights will be gone.

It kinda depends on what color you use if you use red or a brown it will fade out fast if you use a blonde or a black it won't fade out as fast but no matter what the highlights won't be their forever if you hate them, trim your hair every 3 weeks and your hair will grow out which will make the highlights dissappear.
