My dog got a rabbit with mixi this morning, will it make her ill?

the poor little rabbit was not with it at all so my dog managed to catch it and she killed it very quickly thankfully, is mixi transferable to other animals. I know she wont catch it but is it likely to make her poorly? i managed to get to her before she started to tuck in!!My dog got a rabbit with mixi this morning, will it make her ill?
Your dog should be absolutely fine. We used to take our german shepherds to the local fields when there was a Mixi outbreak. They would kill them very quickly and leave them - I didn't like the idea of them eating the flesh.

Myxomatosis is an awful disease for rabbits - truly gut wrenching hearing a rabbit scream with pain and allowing a dog to put a quick end to their pain can only be a good thing.

The disease only affects rabbits so your dog is not in any risk - the only concern i would have is if you have a pet rabbit - there is a chance that the disease could be spread to the rabbit via the dog. My dog got a rabbit with mixi this morning, will it make her ill?
No luckily its only rabbits have can catch myxomatosis.

So your dog should have no side affects,so as she didn't tuck in she will be fine, don't worry!

Other small animals can't even catch it,iam not even sure if hares can even catch it.

I know it sounds cruel, but its a relief to the poorly bunny,as its totally horrible to have myxi,as most rabbits die, even pet ones so thank your dog,for ending it quickly,as myxi can go on for up to 7 days!

Hope this helps.xx
your dog will be okay BUT you need to read this link its important so it does not happen again, because there are some diseases your dog can get. as well if it happens to kill a neighbours pet rabbit, cat or small dog you can have a major lawsuit or might have to put your dog down.. so PLEASE read this link.. its short
