Will being ill make my glucose level go up?

yup! my mom %26amp; sister used to tell me that they could tell when they were getting sick because their numbers were higher than normal.

I have found this to be true as well.

Will being ill make my glucose level go up?
Yes. Illness triggers your body's ';stress response';, which causes hormones to be released that will increase your blood glucose level.

If you are diabetic, it is extremely important that you monitor your blood glucose levels during illness. Do not assume that because you are ill (and perhaps not eating much) that you do not need to take your medications. Contact your doctor if you feel your medications need adjustment during illness. In fact, if you are ill and diabetic, you doc needs to know anyway. Diabetes makes it much more difficult for your body to fight infection, and you need to be monitored closely. Will being ill make my glucose level go up?
yes for a couple of reasons, people usually dont eat when theyre sick, when you dont eat you still need to take insulin, when youre not eating your body still needs energy and if youre not providing it thru carbs that you eat your liver will start to release it store of glucose to provide your body with energy. due to the fact that your sugars are normally higher when youre sick and you dont normally drink enuf water when sick you can also develop ketones when youre sick, so make sure you test for ketones when youre sick, if you start to develop them and they are not at high numbers, start drinking a lot of water to flush them out of your system and to prevent them from elevating to a dangerous level.
