Has anyone ever lived in a house with asbestos , did you get sick?
If you move within 2-3 years after discovering it, will you be ok
The question is essentially, if you live in a house with asbestos is that a guarantee that you will become ill at some point ? Is there a chance that you can stay perfectly healthyIf you live in a house with asbestos is that a guarantee that you will become ill at some point?
I worked around Asbestos for years without having any problems and I am 72 years old. While you probably will not get ill, it is best that you relocate if possible. You are playing with the odds. If you have to stay in the house with the asbestos it would be best that you cover it with something so that it is protected from wind currents and exposure to any kind of contact with anything that would agitate the surface of the asbestos. Since it is usually used around hot objects or electrical wire it should be covered with something that won't start on fire. Do not do anything to disrupt the asbestos because that will release fibers into the air. Porcelain covers can be used on small electrical devices. For hot water pipes covered with asbestos coverings you can use certain kinds of fabric since they do usually get hot enough to start a fire. They usually use some kind of adhesive with a fabric woven around the pipes. Your best bet is to call OSHA and ask them what they suggest you do.If you live in a house with asbestos is that a guarantee that you will become ill at some point?
Mesothelioma and asbestosis (diseases caused by exposure to asbestos) rely on inhalation of asbestos fibres.
Asbestos that is not shedding fibres (eg maybe it has been thoroughly painted over) will not cause disease. However, if you disturb the asbestos (eg knocking it or rubbing it so that asbestos dust is released) and inhale the dust then you are at risk.
Mesothelioma (cancer caused by asbestos) takes 10-20 years to develop. Most people who develop this type of cancer were exposed to significant amounts of asbestos dust eg people who worked with asbestos (ie manufacture of asbestos, installation of asbestos).
Asbestos in the house situation is probably ok provided it was not exposed and losing fibres into the air.
Oh my, you have my sincerest apologies. Asbestos takes effect within several days of contact, triggering the process by which cancerous tumors form, ';gelatinized reexpansion';. The cellular membranes break down in the lining of the lungs, producing a large gelatinous mass which acts as a ';unicell'; permanently altered to grow and fill the confines of your lungs.
This occurs instantaneously, though the growth itself is slow. At 2-3 years, you may begin to develop a nagging cough or sinus infection. If these last for periods longer than 24 hours and occur frequently, you are probably in the late stages of lung cancer, and should contact your loved ones and your lawyer for will negotiations.
well there is a critical size of the asbestos particles which will cause mesothelioma. Too small or too large will not do it. It is best to isolate the source from the rest of the house . Asbestos can also cause debilitating respiratory diseases like emphysema. Have officials from your health department looked into the situation?
well breathing in asbestos fibers is know to cause cancer. If the asbestos was not falling apart, and not leaking any dust that you might have been breathing in on a daily basis...then you'll be fine.
